Tokoname-yaki 常滑焼 is renowned as one of the six oldest kilns in Japan, boasting over 1000 years of rich pottery history. This exquisite form of ceramic pottery is crafted in the region surrounding Tokoname in Aichi prefecture, representing a cherished traditional craft that originated from one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns.
The history of Yixing teapots in Japan dates back to the Muromachi period (1336-1573) and continued through the Meiji period (1868-1912). During the Edo period (1603-1867), the Yokote teapot emerged, with modern Yokote teapots being produced after this era. These teapots evolved into the primary vessels for Japanese tea and are commonly referred to as kyusu (teapot).
This kyusu features a built-in mesh strainer designed to effectively prevent tea leaves from escaping. The design ensures that the functionality of the strainer remains uncompromised, regardless of how the tea leaves are positioned within the teapot.
Kyusu (急須) are traditional Japanese teapots made primarily from high-quality fired volcanic clay. The term "Kyusu" translates directly to teapot, although it is typically associated with teapots that have side handles.
